Day 3

Singapore to Hong Kong 2025

Ko Samui - Thailand
"Tenders" taking passengers to the island
The ship anchored off the island of Ko Samui in Thailand in the morning and we where taken by  tender (smallish boats) to the port.

Island port terminal
Frances had pre-booked a snorkelling expedition and after eventually finding our contact, we travelled by minibus across the island where we were waited at the Loy Lay reggae cafe for a speedboat to take us out to the snorkelling area. The speedboat was enclosed and the trip was nowhere near as rough or wet as the one we had taken on the Great Barrier Reef.

The snorkelling was pretty easy and the masks quite good to use. However, the visibility was not too good and the coral not very colourful although we did see quite a few fish.

The boat then continued onto pig Island where we were waited a little while to have lunch. Dave gave us plenty of time to observe the pigs, wandering around, probably not the highlight attraction that we expected.

Pigs are not usually on small islands but we’re rescued from the market by the cafe owner on the island and have now bred profusely.

We were provided with an open air hot Thai lunch of chicken vegetables and a Tom Yum soup, of which the leftovers were then used to feed the multitude of pigs and dogs.

After returning to Nathan Pier at the port, we boarded one of the ships tenders, small and stifling which proceeded exceedingly slowly back to the ship. Again we had dinner in the Epernay restaurant, this time sharing a table with the English couple from Bath in the UK, Keith and Dawn.
